I’m really impressed with the progress I made tonight! Most of my evening was spent overhauling this website for re-launch. Making nested navigation bars, creating new pages that feel more cohesive and organized… making notes for things I would like to add over the next few months. This is the…. fourth?… incarnation of my website, and it’s by far my favorite.
I started the same process with my social media profiles.
I used to have separate pages and profiles for each art I work with. It’s exhausting and unsustainable for maintenance and content creation. Not wanting to put myself right back into Constant Overwhelm or Constant Forget mode, I decided to consolidate them: art, photography, and writing.
If you happen to follow me on Instagram, you’ll see a lot of crossposting from my personal Facebook page, not my professional page. Be prepared for lots of photos and videos of my children (ahem, ferrets) doing the sassiest cutest things. I’m not apologizing for it! Haha!
I’m rebuilding my Facebook page from scratch, so there isn’t much there yet. My Bluesky account is fairly knew, but I try to check it a few times a week. While I do have a Pinterest account, I don’t use it for much other than travel ideas and recipe hunting… and I never post anything publicly. I may change this as I shift into sharing more photography and art.
My TikTok is very new–I know it’s a great tool for audience building for authors in particular, but I chose to wait before investing time into it before the Supreme Court hearing last month to find out its fate.
I’m also occasionally on Threads–which has become a mix of crossposts from Facebook and some of the thoughts I post on Bluesky for folks who don’t use the latter. (I have not and will not use X. Ever.)
My mainstay has been DeviantArt, where I’ve lived virtually off and on for 18 years. I’ve got a lot more content of all sorts posted there if you are interested while I construct my new home here in my own space.
One of my goals for 2025 is to record some readings to share online. Spoken word performance art has been a shaping force in my life and I miss it. I also miss how I never read my own work the same twice and it surprises audiences. It gives language such a wonderful living breathing pulse of its own that isn’t the same read off a page.
If you’ve got suggestions for top platforms to host something like that (audio only), please share! I do plan to create videos of readings as well, which will go on TikTok and Ingstagram. I’m excited to play with these new avenues!
I’ll keep you posted here for updates–as well as the newsletter, if you subscribe to that on my website once it goes live this weekend.
Thanks and have a great night!
