Daily Prompt: DIY Project

Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.

During the toilet paper shortage of 2020 I installed a bidet attachment in my bathroom. (For anyone in a country where they’re common, they’re very rare in the US.)

I tried to install the version that allowed you to change the temperatures and all that did was burn my fingers on the pipes and spray my entire bathroom with water—including my ceiling.

For one of the photography courses I enrolled in at the time, I did a photojournalism mini- project documenting how my daily life changed that year.

I included some hilarious images of me trying to install the attachment. Attempting to wiggle around a camera tripod and lights while twisting yourself between the back underside of the toilet bowl and your sink pipes is quite the acrobatic feat.

Eventually I got it right, despite burned fingers from the hot water pipes on one hand and a skinned thumb on the other from trying to loosen the nearly rusted shut valves. (No worries, this was right after my tetanus booster.)

My presentation led to lots of laughs, and I wore bandages on my hands for a couple of weeks.

I currently rent, so I don’t have any bigger projects yet on my own, but I genuinely enjoy them.
