Hardcover & Special Edition Design
Original art, illustration, photography, and creative direction for authors and creatives.
I work primarily with horror, dark fantasy, speculative fiction, gothic, romance, romantasy, and other stories that deserve an unusual visual world.
All prices listed are starting points. Final quotes are based on complexity, production requirements, materials, number of subjects, revisions, formats, and licensing.
What to Expect with Book Design and Illustration
Custom Page-Edge Design — $200–400+
Custom artwork for the visible page edges of a hardcover book, including fore-edge, top edge, bottom edge, or coordinated three-edge designs. Pricing varies with complexity and whether artwork is continuous across multiple edges.
Hardcover Endpaper / Inside-Cover Artwork — $200–400+
Custom illustrated or patterned artwork for the inside front and/or back covers of a hardcover edition. May include scenes, motifs, maps, symbols, characters, creatures, or repeating patterns.
Complex or substantially redesigned formats are custom quoted.
Deluxe Hardcover Design Package — $500–900+
A coordinated collection of custom hardcover details, which may include:
- Front and back endpapers
- Page-edge artwork
- Hardcover case artwork
- Illustrated title page
- Chapter ornaments or other decorative interior elements
Designed to transform a book into a cohesive collectible or special-edition object.
Complex or highly detailed designs are quoted individually based on scope, artwork requirements, and printer specifications.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Licensing and Usage
Artwork creation and licensing are separate considerations.
Standard project pricing includes usage for the specified book and agreed publication format(s).
Additional licensing may apply for:
- Merchandise
- Advertising campaigns
- Posters and large-format promotional materials
- Multiple books or editions
- Third-party licensing
- Extensive commercial reproduction
- Exclusive rights
- Copyright transfer
- Derivative products
Purchasing the physical original does not automatically transfer reproduction copyright.
Licensing terms will be clearly defined in the project agreement.
Revisions and Additional Work
Standard projects include 2 rounds of revisions.
Additional revisions or substantial changes outside the original scope: $50–75/hour
Work outside the agreed scope will be quoted and signed before proceeding.
Please be advised that changing the scope after the second revision may change the delivery date. This new date will be discussed if the agreed upon scope changes.
Rush Projects
Projects requested on an accelerated timeline: +$100 starting
Rush pricing depends on the deadline, project complexity, and my current availability.
Extremely short deadlines may require a custom rush quote.
Payment
50% deposit is required to begin the project.
The remaining balance is due before delivery of final high-resolution files.
Physical artwork is not released until payment is complete.
Unclaimed and unpaid for artwork (due to unforeseen circumstances) with no arrangements set up with me after 90 days will be offered to other clients seeking premade covers or illustrations.

For unusual concepts, multiple deliverables, extensive production, or larger collaborations, I provide a custom quote based on the actual scope of work.

Available to qualifying writer communities, associations, groups, and referral networks. If I do not know you personally, I may request evidence of membership.
Currently, the Writer Community Rate applies to members of:

The discount may only be applied once per project.
